Getting Prepared to Efile Your Tax ReturnsThose of us who would like to be able to speed up our tax filing process and also get our refund checks or direct deposits more quickly than if we used the standard tax forms are finding out that an efile tax return can definitely be the way to go. Not only is this method simpler in terms of the amount of paperwork we personally have to deal with, but the federal Internal Revenue Service can use the information submitted electronically instead of paperwork and therefore cut down on amount of paper used during this process which is good for the environment, too. All in all, this is one of the most effective methods of filing your taxes to get that refund back in a very short period of time, especially if you take advantage of the direct deposit option. However, even with the ease of this tax filing solution, you will want to make sure that you are prepared in advance so that you will be able to fill out all of the required digital forms that the IRS needs from you. In order to get ready, make sure that you first have an internet connection because this is, of course, the most crucial aspect of the process. It is best if you use your home connection or a computer that you know is safe such as one at a university or public library. Be sure to ask the person in charge of those computers if filing through their internet connection is safe, though. If you used the efile tax return last year then you will need the PIN number from that year, but if not then you will need a copy of the previous year's tax return that you filed with the IRS. Not only will you need your own Social Security number, you will also need one for your spouse if filing together and your dependents if you plan to claim any. In addition to this basic information, you will of course need your W-2 forms if you are employed by a business or 1099-Misc if you are working on a contractual basis, but not technically employed. If you run a business of your own then you will need receipts from your expenses and a record of your income through that business. In essence, you will want records and receipts for all forms of income and expenses that you have incurred throughout the year. In this way, it's not that different from filing the traditional way, but with efiling, the process is much quicker.
